What an action packed weekend lined up for Foyle Search and Rescue with three major events. It kicks of tonight with The 2015 Derry Journal People of the Year Award Ceremony in the Everglades Hotel.
The 2015 Derry Journal People of the Year Awards will again recognise the contribution, commitment, and achievements of a wide range of people in the Derry area.
Last year, the awards proved to be one of the highlights of the city’s social calendar, and the sold-out ceremony was widely regarded as one of the best events of its kind to be held in the North West. We were lucky to win the Emergency Services Hero’s category last year and have been shortlisted in the same category this year.
Saturday kicks off with team Foyle Search and 397 other brave competitors taking part in Hard as Oak 10K Obstacle Challenge. Members of the public are welcome to pop out to the Oakfire Adventures in the picturesque Faughan Valley and cheer the competitors on. Full details can be found www.hardasoak.co.uk
We are back to the Everglades Hotel on Saturday night at 8pm for our White collar Boxing Event when 18 courageous fighters will compete in the ring. 9 bouts will take place over the course of the evening; all bouts will be refereed by a Boxing Official & will be 3 x1 minute rounds. Your MC for the Evening will be the ever talented Michael Doherty. Sons of Sid will then complete your evening with musical entertainment from 11pm to 1am. Limited tickets will be available at the door at a cost of £10.
Even with all the activities going on as always our sole aim is the preservation of life in and around the River Foyle. Our volunteers will also be carrying out duty from 9.30 pm – 3.30 pm actively looking out for anyone in distress or near the railings around the river’s edge. Our pager team will be available for emergency call outs 24/7.
