On Thursday 8th October members of Foyle Search and Rescue attended the National Finals of the Lloyds Bank Charity Achievement Awards at Banking Hall, the historic London Headquarters of Lloyds Bank, as part of the first ever awards organised by the Foundation to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Picking up the prize for National Runner up in the category of Outstanding Impact, the UK Judging panel were not only impressed by the fact that this charity has directly saved the lives of over 2,500 people, but also that they have been instrumental in supporting groups in other regions set up search and rescue operations. Known as the fourth emergency service locally, they form part of the body recovery team, tragically recovering bodies from the river. Their amazing work doesn’t stop there. They also provide bereavement support to families, water safety education and suicide prevention programmes to the community.
Chairman Stephen Twells said “The competition was very tough and the quality of entries was extremely high with a total of 946. To be the Regional winners in the category of Outstanding Impact and National runners up is an amazing achievement. The dedication, commitment and passion that our volunteers have for the charity and the people of the City is truly remarkable.”
He continued “we would like to congratulate all the winners and runners up in the regional and national finals the difference that these charities are making in their communities is remarkable.
