On Tuesday 14th of June, volunteers Avril Throne and Paul Mullan from Foyle Search & Rescue had the distinct pleasure of travelling to Hillsborough to attend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland the Rt. Hon. Theresa Villiers, M.P. Garden Party, in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. This was in recognition of Foyle Search & rescue being awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service. The garden party event has been held annually since 1984.
Around 2,500 guests were invited with attendees drawn from a wide cross-section of Northern Ireland society, including the voluntary and community sectors, local charities and youth organisations.
Their Royal Highnesses conducted a walkabout of the grounds, speaking to some of the guests of the Secretary of State.
